Financial Literacy as a Lever for Women’s Economic Empowerment

Short biography

As part of the Mercator Kolleg, Vanessa Müden focuses on the question of how financial education can serve as a lever for women’s economic empowerment. She explores how financial literacy enables women to make independent financial decisions and promotes their long-term economic equality.

Currently, she works as a policy advisor at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Germany, contributing to a national initiative to strengthen financial literacy. Previously, she was a research associate at the University of Mannheim, where she studied women’s financial behavior and investment decisions.

Vanessa Müden studied Political Economy at the University of Konstanz and completed international stays at Sciences Po in Paris, Trinity College in Dublin, the German Embassy in Washington, and the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Tanzania.
