Push backs, violence and imprisonment are realities at the borders of the European Union. To address this, effective controls of these incidents are essential. As a Mercator Fellow, Moritz Reinbach will work on the question of how an independent monitoring mechanism can be established at the E.U. borders to prevent violations of fundamental rights. Moritz Reinbach has worked for the Diakonisches Werk as an independent monitor of deportations at the Hamburg airport. Prior to that, he studied political science in Lüneburg and migration studies in Copenhagen and was involved in working with refugees in various ways during his studies.
