Project Title: Local responses to global challenges: Localization of humanitarian assistance for refugees

As a Mercator Fellow, Leonie Harsch works on strengthening the role of local actors, such as local NGOs or church and mosque communities, in international humanitarian cooperation. During her fellowship year, she can build on her experiences from two years of fieldwork with refugees and host communities in Lebanon and Germany, as well as a year in a grassroots organization in the Indian Himalaya. At the UN’s regional commission for Arab states, she was able to gain work experience on a policy-level. Leonie holds a MSc in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford and a BA in International Literatures and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Tuebingen. She has also studied at Aix-Marseille University and IFPO Beirut.
