As part of the Mercator Kolleg, Joana Stalder is working on an integrated approach to combating environmental crime. She will explore how development and security policy approaches can be jointly conceived in the context of tackling organized environmental crime in order to increase the effectiveness of measures. Her particular focus is on illegal deforestation and gold mining. With this focus, she builds on experience in the field of climate and security, which she has gained, among other roles, as a policy officer at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Joana Stalder is a political scientist with a master’s degree in interdisciplinary Latin American studies (Freie Universität Berlin) and an alumna of the Centre for Rural Development at Humboldt Universität Berlin.
