HARMONI-PATHS: Harmonization of International Pathogen Surveillance Systems

Short biography

Dr. Jakob-Wendelin Genger develops strategies for the establishment and international harmonization of pathogen surveillance systems.

His aim is to enable rapid identification of outbreaks to prevent future pandemics and epidemics. Jakob draws on his experience from over six years of research in infection biology at the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence and supports the local implementation of pathogen surveillance in low-resource settings.

Jakob studied molecular biology at Heidelberg University and Imperial College London. During his doctorate at the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine in Vienna, he coordinated the development of a system for detecting SARS-CoV-2 variants in close collaboration with the national public health agency.
