As a Mercator Fellow, Lena Riemer examines possible legal pathways to respond to climate change-induced forced displacement, focusing on Latin America. During her Mercator Fellowship, she will work with NGOs in Mexico and Columbia on strategic litigation related to her research topic. Besides that, Lena will also gain insights into migration policy during her stage at the International Organization for Migration Mexico.
Lena is a German-trained jurist with a Ph.D. in international migration law and a Master of Laws from Yale Law School. She has worked in academia and practice for several years, researching and teaching. She gained practical experience working as Associate Protection Officer for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Germany.
