Anja Crusius is a political economist, exploring the opportunities and challenges of local currency financing in her Mercator Fellowship. Her work looks at supply-side constraints with creditors, the role of financial market development, domestic resource mobilisation and innovative instruments – all set within broader debates on power hierarchies in international development finance, debt sustainability, and dollarization. Her project benefits from diverse perspectives through placements at The Currency Exchange Fund (TCX), Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Africa and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Prior to the fellowship, she worked as a sustainability analyst at GLS Investments and in the Sustainable Finance division at the climate consultancy adelphi.
