Project title

M(Bre)aking the Atomic Bomb – New approaches for the verification of nuclear disarmament

Short biography

As part of the Mercator Fellowship, Kim Joana Westerich-Fellner is working on approaches to promote nuclear disarmament. To date, there are no established processes for states to verify the depletion of their nuclear warhead arsenals. In an interdisciplinary approach between science and politics, Kim is therefore investigating how such verification mechanisms can be effectively developed and implemented.

Kim has a PhD in Molecular Biology. She earned her doctorate at the University of Münster and conducted research stays in New York, Cambridge and at the Max Planck Institute.
