As a Mercator fellow, Gian Clavadetscher explores avenues for a more cooperative approach to global criminal justice. The focus lies on improving mutual understanding between multilateral justice institutions and the affected communities – while the principle of complementarity serves as a starting point. Most recently, he worked at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies and at the Swiss Embassy in Washington D.C., where he focused in particular on issues related to international criminal law and international humanitarian law. Gian holds a B.A. in Law & Economics from the University of St. Gallen and an LL.M. in Public International Law from Leiden University.
